The GreenFit Project officially kicked-off in October 6-7 at KEDEA, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, marking the beginning of an ambitious Horizon Europe initiative dedicated to accelerating the adoption of climate-smart farming practices across Europe. Over two days, partners gathered to align on strategy, foster collaboration, and set the groundwork for a transformative journey toward sustainable, digital, and inclusive agriculture.

A Strong Consortium for a Green Future in Smart Farming
GreenFit brings together a dynamic consortium of 20 organisations from 10 countries including Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Malta, Romania, Serbia, Spain, and Sweden. United by a shared mission, partners aim to empower farmers with cutting-edge digital tools, strengthen value-chain collaboration, and support rural communities in transitioning toward climate-resilient practices.
The project leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Extended Reality (XR) applications, and community-driven innovation to create practical, scalable solutions that respond to real agricultural challenges.
Day 1: A Warm Start for Collaboration and Team Building
The first day of the kick-off meeting was rich with presentations from all partners, starting with our project coordinator, Dreven, who introduced GreenFit’s vision and objectives. This opening set the stage for insightful discussions on the future of climate-smart agriculture and the collaborative role each partner will play in shaping it.
After the lunch break, the group shifted to interactive team-bonding activities designed to strengthen connections and build trust among consortium partners. These activities brought a refreshing, playful energy to the day, helping partners get to know each other better, encouraging teamwork, and fostering a positive atmosphere that will carry into the project’s next steps.

Day 2: Exploring the Five GreenFit Strategic Pillars
The second day focused on the project’s five strategic Pillars, which will guide the methodological and operational direction of GreenFit:
- Pillar 1 – Understanding Barriers and Challenges: Identifying the socioeconomic and technological obstacles faced by farmers across Europe.
- Pillar 2 – Building Value-Chain Partnerships for Sustainable Agriculture: Strengthening networks across the agricultural ecosystem to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
- Pillar 3 – GreenFit Climate-Smart Solutions from development to practice: Developing innovative tools and sustainable practices tailored to real needs.
- Pillar 4 – From Lab to the Field and Community: Solutions’ Implementation and Validation: Testing and validating the developed solutions through real-world pilot activities.
- Pillar 5 – Community Engagement and Capacity Building: Empowering rural communities with the knowledge, skills, and support necessary for meaningful and lasting impact.
These sessions sparked meaningful conversations and generated valuable feedback, ensuring that the project’s work will be both relevant and impactful.
Looking Ahead
The GreenFit Kick-Off Meeting concluded with a strong sense of purpose and unity. As the consortium moves forward, partners remain committed to delivering actionable, scalable, and community-oriented solutions that will contribute to a more resilient and sustainable agricultural future across Europe.
Stay tuned for more updates as GreenFit progresses on its mission to drive climate-smart innovation in farming!
