about us

GreenFit Overview

GreenFit is built on five key pillars that guide the transformation of rural agriculture through sustainable practices, technology integration, and community engagement. These pillars address farmers’ challenges while delivering scalable solutions through value-chain partnerships, digital tools, and practical field implementation.

Five key pillars

Pillar 1

Understanding Barriers and Challenges

  • Identify regional socio-economic, technological, and behavioral barriers.
  • Use participatory research, climate risk assessments, and stakeholder input.
  • Generate tailored strategies and policy recommendations for farmers and foresters.

Pillar 2

Building Value-Chain Partnerships for Sustainable Agriculture

  • Map and engage agri-food stakeholders to co-create scalable business models.
  • Use the Digital Agricultural Observatory to identify drivers and barriers.
  • Foster locally tailored, financially sustainable solutions.

Pillar 3

GreenFit Climate-Smart solutions from development to practice

  • Deploy cutting-edge tools: AI climate-based downscaling, AgriChatbot, autonomous drones, XR training, Farm Management Information System, and a farmer-focused One-Stop-Shop.
  • Provide real-time data, personalized advice, and hands-on learning.

Pillar 4

From Lab to the Field and Community: Solutions’ Implementation and Validation

  • Pilot solutions in 7 countries and global outreach with local farmers and organizations.
  • Collect continuous feedback to ensure inclusivity, scalability, and alignment with local needs.

Pillar 5

Community Engagement and Capacity Building

  • Deliver targeted training and inclusive communication for farmers and communities.
  • Promote adoption, long-term uptake, and replication of climate-smart practices.
  • Supported by a pan-European network for sustained impact.

GreenFit will collaborate and support eight pilot regions across Europe (Greece, Italy, Spain, Romania, Latvia, Serbia, Malta, Global) to:

Identify regional barriers and challenges

through participatory and co-creation methods.

Enhance technology and connectivity

by deploying cutting-edge tools and improving digital infrastructure.

Build value-chain partnerships

and promote sustainable, long term solutions.

Empower local communities

and strengthen their capacity to scale and adopt innovative practices.

Why Climate-Smart Farming?

Resillience

Small shifts create a big impact, as even incremental improvements in agricultural practices can lead to significant environmental benefits, stronger economies, and a more sustainable food system. Climate-smart farming is essential for building a more resilient, sustainable, and profitable agriculture future.

Impact

Farmers face climate impacts and barriers to sustainability, requiring better digital tools, financing, and training to adapt. According to the World Economic Forum (2022), if just 20% more farmers adopted climate-smart agricultural practices by 2030, the EU could cut agricultural greenhouse gas emissions by 6%, improve soil health across 14% of farmland, and boost farmer livelihoods by €1.9 – 9.3 billion each year.

Knowledge

These figures highlight the enormous potential of scaling up sustainable practices to benefit both the planet and rural communities.

70% of farmers reported having searched for information on climate smart farming.

Only 25% of farmers have a good knowledge of what climate smart farming is.

Objectives

Sustainable  and digitally empowered agricultural sector

GreenFit focuses on creating a sustainable and digitally empowered agricultural sector by tackling adoption barriers, fostering collaboration, and deploying innovative solutions. Its objectives guide the project’s efforts to support farmers, strengthen communities, and scale climate-smart practices across Europe.
