The FAO Global Conference on Smart Farming 2026, held in Rome from 1 to 3 July 2026, brought together stakeholders to discuss how digital technologies and innovation can support more resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, while ensuring that solutions are accessible and useful for farmers.
Our partner, the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO), attended the conference with Andrea Porro, WFO Secretary General, Natalia Lupi, Project Specialist, and Valeria Di Marzo, Head of Communication. Throughout the conference, WFO Secretary General Dr Andrea Porro contributed to several discussions, bringing a farmer-centred perspective on smart farming and illustrating some of the practical challenges and opportunities related to the uptake of digital and climate-smart solutions.
WFO Secretary General Dr Andrea Porro emphasised that technology alone is not enough: successful adoption requires access to knowledge, infrastructure, financing and support systems adapted to farmers’ realities.
The session “Building climate resilient agrifood systems through smart farming and technology solutions” provided an opportunity to further explore these themes through GreenFit, highlighting how the project addresses the socio-economic, behavioural and technical barriers that continue to limit the adoption of climate-smart technologies and supports the development of farmer-centred solutions that are practical, scalable and adapted to real farming contexts.
The recognition of GreenFit at this international event reinforces the project’s contribution to the ongoing dialogue on how innovation can empower farmers and strengthen the resilience of agrifood systems.
